Wenger ‘Will Make Move’ To Sign German International
Arsenal will make an attempt to sign German international midfielder Lars Bender this summer after Arsene Wenger made the Bayer Leverkusen ace his no.1 target
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Lars Bender.
Arsenal will make another attempt to sign German international midfielder Lars Bender this summer after Arsene Wenger made the Bayer Leverkusen ace his no.1 target, according to the Daily Mail.
We were strongly linked with a move for Bender last summer and failed with an £18.5m bid, with Leverkusen insisting he stayed in the Bundesliga for at least another year.
However, it seems Arsene Wenger hasn’t given up hope of luring him to the Emirates with the Daily Mail reporting that the Frenchman will bring in a defensive midfielder this summer and has made the 25-year-old his first choice target.
The newspaper suggests that the boss believes Leverkusen will be willing to cash-in on Bender this time around and is ready to test their resolve by making another bid at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen what kind of fee will be enough to persuade the German outfit to sell, but you’d think it will be in excess of £20m, but it’s certainly a price worth paying for a player of Bender’s quality.
Mikel Arteta has been an excellent professional for us but there’s no denying his legs are gone and his lack of pace has been exposed this season, particularly in big games, so an athletic ball-winner is needed this summer to replace the Spaniard and Bender would be the ideal addition.

Hopefully Arsene will have more luck with a renewed bid this summer, but if we can’t strike a deal with Leverkusen, I’d like to see us go for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin. The Frenchman would probably be cheaper and has experience in the Premier League, so would be a good alternative.
