Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is eyeing his long-awaited comeback after giving Arsenal.com an update on his recovery from a fractured fibula.
Wilshere is yet to play a single minute of first team football this season after suffering his latest injury just before our Community Shield clash with Chelsea at the start of August.
After struggling to recover from the hairline fracture, the 24-year-old was eventually forced to have surgery in early September which ruled him out of action for at least three months.
The midfielder was set to make his comeback at Christmas before a setback in training ruled him out for the foreseeable future, but it looks like Wilshere is now once again stepping up his rehabilitation.
Jack has told Arsenal.com that his recovery is going well and he’s back on the training pitch working on his fitness as he looks to get in a position where he can put himself in contention for a return to the squad.
He told the clubs website:
“[My recovery is] going well. I’m back on the pitch and I’m just trying to build my fitness up because everyone knows how tough it is to play in the Premier League. I’m working on it and I’m slowly getting there.
“Sometimes it’s been difficult to stay positive, especially after the injuries that I’ve had which have been frustrating, but as the injury goes, you get closer to full fitness and you see the light at the end of the tunnel, then you start to think about coming back and getting involved in the team.”
Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier this week that Wilshere is only doing light running outside and it will be at least a month before he’ll be available for selection, so we’ve still got a little while to go before we’ll see him in the first team again.
However, it’s good to hear that his recovery is going well and fingers crossed he doesn’t suffer any further setbacks when he starts to do full training work at London Colney over the coming weeks.
I think we could certainly do with Wilshere back in the team during the second half of the season, especially while Santi Cazorla is out injured, so hopefully Jack’s recovery will go smoothly from here on.
