Manchester United blew their chance to climb in to the top four after slumping to a 3-2 defeat to West Ham in a thriller at Upton Park on Tuesday night.
In the final game at the Boleyn Ground, West Ham started brightly and took a deserved lead when Diafra Sakho turned home a Lanzini cut-back for 1-0 in the 10th minute.
United levelled things up with their first shot on target as Anthony Martial tapped home from close range in the 50th minute following some good work from Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata.
The visitors then looked on course to secure the win they needed to leapfrog Manchester City in to fourth spot when Martial burst through the Hammers defence before finding a way past Randolph from a tight angle.
However, West Ham hit back almost immediately as Michail Antonio headed home from a Dimitri Payet cross before the hosts won it as Winston Reid headed home in the 80th minute to make it 3-2 – although David De Gea should certainly have done more to keep it out.
The result leaves United fifth and two points adrift of City so Louis van Gaal’s men will need a favour from Swansea on the final day of the season if they’re to stand any chance to stealing fourth.
