Some of the Arsenal and Manchester United players have taken to Twitter to send Danny Welbeck messages of support after he was ruled out for nine months with a knee injury.

Welbeck was substituted during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon after picking up a knee injury following an innocuous collision with Bacary Sagna.

However, after being sent to see knee specialist Andy Williams on Tuesday, Arsenal confirmed earlier today that Welbeck has suffered significant damage to his right knee cartilage.

The 25-year-old has already undergone surgery and the club claims he’ll be on the sidelines for around nine months meaning Welbeck will miss Euro 2016 and the majority of next season.

The news will come as a bitter blow to the attacker as he’s only recently returned from a 10-month absence with another knee injury so it’s going to be difficult for him to take another prolonged spell on the treatment table.

However, Welbeck does appear to be in good spirits as he took to Twitter earlier to say he’ll be back stronger and the striker has been inundated with messages of support.

Arsenal players Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Emi Martinez, Jack Wilshere and Laurent Koscielny have all offered their support to Welbeck while former Manchester United team mate Ashley Young has also sent him a get well soon message. Even the official ManUtd Twitter handle sent the striker a Tweet.
