Infographic: A Guide To Money In The Premier League
Football has become a multi-million pound industry over the years. Here is an infographic guide to money within the English Premier League.
Football has become a multi-million pound industry over the years and this summer we’re expecting to see Premier League clubs spend a record amount in the transfer window.
Manchester United have set the tone after splashing out almost £90m on French international midfielder Paul Pogba earlier this month which set a new world transfer record. For that kind of money you could buy 29,800,000 pints of beer or 14 Caribbean islands.
Pogba’s deal eclipses the £59.7m United paid Real Madrid for Angel Di Maria while the Red Devils have also spent big on deals for David De Gea, Luke Shaw and Rio Ferdinand over the years.
If we consider what the most expensive starting eleven would be in Premier League history, United would have five players in the team while Manchester City would have three representatives in Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Raheem Sterling.
When looking strictly at the most expensive players in the history of the Premier League, United have the top two following the arrivals of Pogba and Di Maria but City dominate with five of the top 10.
With all these huge transfer fees come sky high wages and in total, Premier League players area around £1.52 billion per year, contributing over £700 million in tax and national insurance to the UK economy.
