Chelsea Line-Up Move For Spanish Ace As Conte Eyes Two New Signings
Chelsea are eyeing a move for a Spanish full-back as boss Antonio Conte looks to bring in two new signings before the transfer window slams shut next week
The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Marcos Alonso….
Chelsea are lining-up a move for Fiorentina full-back Marcos Alonso as Antonio Conte looks to bring in two new defenders during the closing stages of the transfer window, according to the Telegraph.
Conte has admitted he needs to strengthen his options at the back as with Kurt Zouma still nursing a serious knee injury, the Italian coach has just four fit senior defenders to choose from.
A number of players have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks but the latest name is Marcos Alonso with the Telegraph claiming that Chelsea are lining-up a swoop for the Fiorentina left-back.
Alonso came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid before joining Bolton Wanderers in 2010 and he spent three years at the Reebok Stadium until eventually heading to Italy in the summer of 2013.
The 25-year-old then enjoyed a six-month loan spell with Sunderland in 2014 where he helped the Black Cats avoid relegation from the Premier League and returned to Fiorentina to become a regular starter over the past two seasons.
Conte obviously knows Alonso from his time in Serie A and the fact the Spanish under-19 international has plenty of experience of English football is understood to appeal to Chelsea officials.
Signing left-back Alonso would give Conte the option to move Cesar Azpilicueta over to his more natural position at right-back position and allow Branislav Ivanovic to play in a more central role if needed.
However, the Telegraph claim that as well as signing Alonso, the Blues are also trying to bring in another central defender before the window slams shut but have been frustrated in their attempts to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli in recent weeks.
