Divock Origi – who scored the opening goal against Sunderland at the weekend – finally broke the deadlock in the 75th as poked home from Trent Alexander-Arnold right-wing cross.
Then came the big moment for young Ben Woodburn as he came off the bench to not only double Liverpool’s lead with a lashing far post finish, but he also became the clubs youngster ever competitive goal-scorer at 17 years and 45 days old.
Liverpool have now booked their place in the semi finals of the League Cup for the second consecutive season.
