Man Utd vs West Ham Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Prediction
Man Utd take on West Ham at Old Trafford this evening in the EFL Cup. Here is a preview with team news, line-ups, betting tips and predicted score.
Manchester United will be looking to book their place in the semi finals of the EFL Cup when they take on West Ham at Old Trafford this evening.
The game comes just four days after the two sides drew 1-1 in their Premier League clash so the Hammers will be looking to cause another upset with a positive result tonight.
Sunday’s game has heaped more pressure on Jose Mourinho as not only did United fall 11 points off the pace in the title race, but the Portuguese coach is facing another FA charge after being sent to the stands for kicking a water bottle.
It’s safe to say Mourinho desperately needs a win tonight to ease the pressure on his shoulders but the Hammers proved at the weekend that they can be a match for any side, despite their disappointing start to the new season.
Team news
United will have to make do without world record signing Paul Pogba as he’ll serve a one-game ban after picking up his fifth booking of the season on Sunday while Marouane Fellaini is also suspended.
Michael Carrick is expected to come back in to the side while Bastian Schweinsteiger is also pushing to make his first appearance of the season after he was named on the bench on Sunday.
Eric Bailly returned to training this week after recovering from a knee injury but he isn’t ready to return just yet so he remains unavailable along with Chris Smalling – who continues to nurse a toe injury.
Mourinho is expected to make some changes to his starting eleven with Sergio Romero, Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial pushing for recalls while Wayne Rooney and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are set to come back in to the side.
West Ham will be without striker Diafra Sakho after he suffered a hamstring injury at the weekend but Andy Carroll could return to the squad after recovering from a knee problem. Winston Reid is also expected to be recalled after serving a one-match ban last time out.
Likely Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Man Utd 2-1 West Ham: The Hammers worked hard at the weekend and the early goal certainly unsettled United but Mourinho’s men were unlucky not to win in the end. I expect another tight game this evening but am backing the hosts to edge it and book their place in the last four.
