Man Utd vs Hull Preview, Team News, Line-Ups, Betting Tips & Predicted Score
Man Utd take on Hull City in the semi final of the EFL Cup tonight. Here is a preview with team news, line-ups, betting tips and predicted score.
Manchester United will be looking to take control of the tie when they entertain Hull City in their EFL Cup semi-final first leg at Old Trafford tonight.
The Red Devils extended their winning streak to eight games in all competitions with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Reading in the third round of the FA Cup last weekend so they’ll be hoping to make it nine on the bounce this evening.
That run has not only seen United book a date with Wigan in the fourth round of the FA Cup but it’s also seen them close to within three points of the top four in the Premier League so they have certainly got back on track following a poor start to the campaign.
However, it’s League Cup matters that will be the focus tonight and United have a great chance to put one foot in the final when they take on a Hull side that’s rooted to the foot of the table on just 13 points.
Marco Silva was appointed as the Tigers new manager last week and got off to a winning start after beating Swansea on Saturday but he knows he’ll be in for a much stiffer test this evening.
Team news
Mourinho is set to recall his big-guns after leaving the likes of David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic out of Saturday’s FA Cup win.
Marcos Rojo is set to miss the game after picking up a knock at the weekend and with Eric Bailly away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Phil Jones is set to be partnered by Chris Smalling at the back.
Luke Shaw is struggling to prove his fitness to Mourinho so Matteo Darmian could start at left-back while Wayne Rooney may drop to the bench despite becoming United’s all-time leading goal-scorer on Saturday.
As for Hull, they arrive in Manchester with problems in defence as Curtis Davies is out with a hamstring injury while Michael Dawson and Harry Maguire both face late fitness tests.
Abel Hernandez is also a doubt while Alex Bruce remains out with an Achilles injury so he joins Moses Odubajo and Will Keane on the sidelines. Dieumerci Mbokani and Ahmed Elmohamady are both away at the AFCON.
Likely Line-Ups
Predicted Score
Man Utd 2-0 Hull: United are bang in form and have an excellent record against Hull having won 11 and lost none of their last 12 meetings. Therefore, it’s difficult to see past a home win tonight and although I hope Hull put up a good fight to keep the tie alive, I think United will ease to a 2-0 win.
