Chelsea To Hijack Man Utd’s Deal With Late £27m Bid For Ligue 1 Star

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea enter the chase for Serge Aurier….

Chelsea are set to launch a late attempt to hijack Manchester United’s move for Serge Aurier by tabling a £27m bid for the want-away Paris Saint-Germain full-back, according to reports in France via the Express.

Aurier was regarded as one of the most exciting young full-backs in Europe when he joined PSG from Toulouse in 2015 but his time at the Parc des Prince hasn’t gone according to plan.

The 24-year-old has been involved in several controversies which have affected his form and led to him failing to hold down a regular first team place over the past two years.

Boss Unai Emery has confirmed that Aurier has asked to leave following the arrival of Dani Alves on a free transfer and he was left out of their pre-season tour squad in order to resolve his future.

The Ivory Coast international has been strongly linked with Man Utd with The Sun reporting earlier this week that Aurier had agreed personal terms over a five-year contract worth around £95,000-a-week ahead of a move to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho is still in the market for further reinforcements as he prepares for United’s return to the Champions League and Aurier would provide stiff competition for Antonio Valencia if he was to join the Red Devils.

The only thing holding up the proposed deal is that Aurier is currently awaiting the outcome of his August 7th appeal against an assault conviction which is preventing him from entering the UK.

However, it looks like this delay has left the door open for Chelsea as the Express are citing a report from Le 10 Sport that claims the Blues are now ready to try and hijack United’s deal.

Antonio Conte is also in the market for an attack-minded right-back to compete with Victor Moses in the right wing-back position and it seems he’s now turned his attention to Aurier.

The French publication claims that Chelsea have already expressed their interest and are ready to launch a £27m bid to bring Aurier to Stamford Bridge ahead of Old Trafford.

It’s primed to be a fascinating battle between two of England’s most powerful clubs but I think Aurier would be an excellent addition to either squad and £27m sounds like a very reasonable deal for a player of his potential in today’s market.
