Man Utd Handed Huge Triple Injury Boost Ahead Of Man City Showdown
Manchester United have been handed a triple injury boost with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marouane Fellaini and Phil Jones passed fit to face Manchester City
Manchester United have been handed a triple injury boost with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marouane Fellaini and Phil Jones passed fit to face Manchester City this weekend, according to the Mirror.
Ibrahimovic made his long-awaited return from a serious knee ligament injury with four substitute appearances last month but has sat out United’s last two matches due to muscle fatigue.
Fellaini hasn’t featured for the Red Devils since being forced off during the 1-0 victory over Brighton two weeks ago with the midfielder believed to have aggravated a knee injury that hampered him in October.
Jones has been on the sidelines for United’s last six matches in all competitions after suffering a thigh injury while away with England during the November international break.
Jose Mourinho suggested after United’s Champions League win over CSKA Moscow earlier this week that the trio all had a chance to return to action against City as long as they came through training this week.
And the Mirror claim that Ibrahimovic, Jones and Fellaini have now all been passed fit to return to the squad this weekend after training without issue over the past few days.
Ibrahimovic is expected to be named among the substitutes but Fellaini may get an immediate recall to the midfield as Paul Pogba will start a three-match ban following his dismissal against Arsenal.
Jones was a regular for United before he picked up his injury so it will be interesting to see if Mourinho brings him straight back in or if he sticks with a back three of Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling and Marco Rojo that’s performed well in recent games.
Mourinho confirmed earlier this week that Nemanja Matic is certain to start despite still carrying a knock but Eric Bailly is set to miss out as he’s still nursing a groin problem.
United head in to the weekend action sitting eight points adrift of City so they desperately need to close the gap by coming out victorious in the Manchester derby on Sunday afternoon.
