Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign one of three Real Madrid players as part of a deal that would see David De Gea return to Spain this summer, according to reports in Spain via the Express.
Madrid have long been on the trail of De Gea and the La Liga giants are expected to renew their interest as Zinedine Zidane looks to revamp his squad this summer following a disappointing campaign.
The Spanish giants have failed to defend their league title having dropped 14 points behind Barcelona and the Express claim that a new goalkeeper is a priority for Madrid this summer with De Gea identified as their first choice target.
However, Madrid know it will be difficult to prise him away from United so president Florentino Perez is willing to offer Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos or Raphael Varane in exchange for the keeper.
The Express cite a report from Diario Gol that claims Madrid are so desperate to finally get their hands on De Gea that Perez has given United their pick of the trio in what would be a stunning player-swap-deal this summer.
United have shown an interest in all three players in the past but it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho would be willing to sacrifice De Gea in order to sign any of the Madrid trio.
The report says Bale is Madrid’s preferred option as they’ve grown frustrated with his injury problems over the past two seasons but it’s unclear whether United still want the world class Welshman following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez.
Varane would be an excellent signing as the French international is one of the best young centre-backs in European football and he could be viewed as the idea long-term partner for Eric Bailly.
However, I think Kroos could be the most tempting option for United as the German star is one of the finest midfielders of his generation and he could be the perfect foil for Paul Pogba in the middle of the park.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but unless De Gea asks to leave, I personally don’t think United will be prepared to lose their No.1 – even if it meant losing out on Bale, Varane or Kroos.
