Manchester United are ready to battle it out with Chelsea over a £35m deal to sign Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri this summer, according to the Express.
Seri has developed in to one of the best all-round midfielders in French football since joining Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 while he’s also now a regular with the Ivory Coast national team.
The 26-year-old has attracted interest from all around Europe in recent transfer windows and was reportedly close to joining Barcelona last summer before the proposed deal fell through.
The midfielder has also caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League and the Express claim Man Utd are now lining-up a bid to sign the Ivorian after joining the race for his signature.
Jose Mourinho knows he needs to strengthen his squad this summer if United are to compete with the likes of Man City for major trophies next season following a frustrating campaign at Old Trafford.
The ‘Special One’ is in the market for at least one central midfielder as Michael Carrick will retire in June while Marouane Fellaini’s contract is set to expire and he’s no closer to signing an extension.
Seri is seemingly on Mourinho’s radar but United will face stiff competition as the newspaper says Chelsea are among a host of other clubs who are also showing a keen interest.
The Blues are also expected to strengthen their options in the middle of the park this summer as Tiemoue Bakayoko has struggled to settle following his move from Monaco and Seri is reportedly a target.
