Chelsea have stolen a march on Tottenham and Liverpool after opening talks with Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes over a move this summer, according to reports in Portugal via the Metro.
Fernandes only joined Sporting from Sampdoria less than 12 months ago but he’s enjoyed an excellent season having provided 16 goals and 20 assists in all competitions so far this campaign.
The attacker has also established himself as a regular in the Portuguese national team squad and is expected to be on the plane for the World Cup finals in Russia this summer.
The 23-year-old’s impressive form has caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League as the Metro claim that Liverpool have held preliminary negotiations about a move to Anfield while Tottenham have also expressed their interest.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for an attacking midfielder after failing to sign a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following his move to Barcelona in January and it seems Fernandes is on the Liverpool managers radar.
Mauricio Pochettino is also expected to further strengthen his talented young squad following another solid campaign and the Tottenham boss is also eyeing a move for the Portuguese international.
However, it looks like Chelsea have stolen a march on their rivals as the Metro are citing a report from A Bola that claims the Blues are in talks with Fernandes’ agents about a move to Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte is being tipped to leave Chelsea following a disappointing season but Roman Abramovich is pressing ahead with the clubs transfer business and it seems a swoop for Fernandes is on the cards.
