Nabil Fekir’s father has provided a huge update on his son’s future after dismissing reports claiming Liverpool have agreed a £60m deal with Lyon to sign the player, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Fekir has developed in to one of the most prolific playmakers in European football since joining Lyon from Saint-Priest in 2013 and he’s provided 22 goals and 7 assists so far this season.
The 24-year-old’s form has helped Lyon reach second place in the Ligue 1 table behind run-away champions PSG while he’s also expected to be named in the French World Cup squad this summer.
Fekir’s impressive display’s have also caught the attention of clubs here in the Premier League and it looked like Liverpool were closing-in on what would have been a major signing ahead of the summer window.
Reports in recent days, via the Liverpool Echo, claimed Liverpool had agreed a £60m deal with Lyon to sign Fekir and the attacking midfielder had already met with Jurgen Klopp to discuss his move to Anfield.
However, not only have Liverpool distanced themselves from the speculation but Fekir’s father, Mohamed, has now provided an update by denying all knowledge of this supposed ‘deal’.
Fekir senior went on to ‘guarantee’ that his son never met up with Klopp and insists the attackers dream is to play in the Champions League with his boyhood club, Lyon.
Fekir’s father is quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo:
“I hear there are arrangements, stuff like that… I was surprised.
“I can deny this information right now: it’s not true. Otherwise Nabil would have told me right away, we are very close.”
“I can guarantee you that he never met him [Klopp]. His dream is to play in the Champions League with his boyhood club.”
Lyon are on course to qualify for the Champions League next season as they sit second in the Ligue 1 table with just two games remaining so Liverpool fans will be praying they blow their chances over the coming week.

If Lyon missed out on Champions League qualification then it may persuade Fekir to seek a new challenge this summer but as it stands it seems any talk of a ‘done deal’ with Liverpool is wide of the mark.
