[Video Goals] Newcastle 3-0 Chelsea: Blues Finish 5th As Magpies Run Riot

Chelsea missed out on Champions League qualification after slumping to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park this afternoon.

Newcastle started the brighter of the two sides and took a deserved lead midway through the first half as Dwight Gayle headed home from close range to make it 1-0 in the 24th minute.

Chelsea enjoyed plenty of possession but struggled to create many clear-cut chance and Newcastle doubled their lead in the 58th minute when Perez flicked home Jonjo Shelvey’s low drive.

Rafa Benitez’s side made it 3-0 five minutes later as Perez bundled home from close range following a free-kick to put the hosts in a comfortable position.

The defeat, coupled with Liverpool’s comfortable 4-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield, means Chelsea have to settle for finishing fifth in the table and miss our on Champions League football next season.
