Chelsea are closing-in on a deal to sign Liverpool target Alisson Becker as they prepare to meet Roma’s £62m asking price for the goalkeeper, according to Marca via the Daily Mail.
Alisson has developed in to one of the best keepers in Europe since joining Roma from Inter Milan two years ago and he played a vital role in reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League last season where they eventually lost-out to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old has also established himself at international level as he’s been selected as Brazil’s first choice goalkeeper ahead of Manchester City’s Ederson and has helped the Samba Boys book their place in the last-16 after topping their group.
However, Alisson’s future at the Stadio Olimpico has been in serious doubt as he’s attracted interest from several clubs this summer with TeamTalk reporting earlier this week that Chelsea had joined Liverpool and Real Madrid in the race to sign the South American stopper.
Liverpool have been linked with a swoop for Alisson for several months as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in a reliable number one after Loris Karius made two costly mistakes during their Champions League final defeat to Madrid.
However, the Merseysiders have been reluctant to meet Roma’s hefty asking price and the Daily Mail claim that Madrid have also refused to pay the required £62m after seeing a £35m offer rejected earlier this month.
It seems this has left the door open for Chelsea as the newspaper cites a report from Marca that claims the Blues are now leading the race to sign Alisson after opening talks and agreeing to pay close to Roma’s £62m valuation.
Chelsea are on the look-out for a new number one amid speculation that Thibaut Courtois will move back to Spain this summer after refusing to sign a new contract and Alisson has emerged as a prime target.
The Spanish publication says that while the Brazilian keeper would prefer a move to Madrid, Chelsea are now his likeliest destination due to the European champions reluctance to meet Roma’s asking price.

There is still time for Liverpool to step-up their pursuit and match whatever Chelsea are willing to pay but as it stands it seems Alisson could be heading to west London over the coming weeks.
