Man Utd and Chelsea are ready to do-battle over the signing of Thiago Alcantara with the £62m midfielder linked with a move away from Bayern Munich
There is plenty of Manchester United and Chelsea gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names. Today, they are both eyeing Thiago Alcantara….
Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to do-battle over the signing of Thiago Alcantara with the £62m-rated midfielder linked with a move away from Bayern Munich this summer, according to reports via the Daily Mail.
Thiago came through the ranks at Barcelona after graduating from the La Masia youth academy but struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Nou Camp so joined Bayern Munich in 2013 with Man Utd among the clubs to have reportedly missed out on his signature.
The Spanish international has enhanced his reputation as one of the best central midfielders in the world during his time at the Allianz Arena as he’s helped Bayern win a whole host of trophies including 5 Bundesliga titles and 2 domestic cups.
However, Thiago has been linked with a move this summer as Bayern have a wealth of midfield options following the arrival of Leon Goretzka and it seems a move to England could be a possibility.
The Daily Mail are citing a report from ESPN that claims Manchester United and Chelsea are showing a keen interest in signing Thiago and hope to lure him to the Premier League this summer.
Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic recently suggested they were keen to keep hold of the 27-year-old but the newspaper cites German publication Kicker as saying the German giants may cash-in if £62m is put on the table.
Obviously United have the financial muscle to pay that kind of money for Thiago and Jose Mourinho has admitted he’d like to further strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes on August 9th.
Man Utd have already splashed out on Fred but Thiago would be an excellent addition to their squad and Mourinho could be eyeing him amid ongoing speculation surrounding the future of Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.
However, Chelsea are also expected to be busy in the transfer market over the next couple of weeks as new boss Maurizio Sarri looks to revamp the squad he inherited from Antonio Conte following his acrimonious exit.

Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko are both being tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer so Sarri could be eyeing Thiago to form a new-look midfield alongside N’Golo Kante and Jorginho this season.
