Arsenal have joined Liverpool and Manchester United in the chase to sign £31m-rated Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella ahead of a potential move next summer, according to reports in Italy via the Sun.
Barella is a product of the Cagliari youth system and he’s emerged as one of the hottest young prospects in Italian football since breaking in to the first team set-up last season and he’s now a regular having played every minute of their nine games in all competitions so far this campaign.
The 21-year-old represented Italy at every youth level from Under-15 through to Under-21 before making his senior debut during their 1-1 draw with Ukraine last week and then impressed in the win over Poland on Sunday so he certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Barella’s potential has caught the attention of clubs throughout Europe – including here in the Premier League – with the Sun claiming that Liverpool and Man Utd have shown a keen interest along with Serie A trio Juventus, AC Milan and Roma.
The report says Barella is valued at around £31m and the young midfielder is expected to leave Cagliari at the end of the season if a club comes in with a suitable offer so a transfer battle could be on the cards.
However, it appears there is another English club in the running as the Sun are citing a report from Gazzetta dello Sport that claims Arsenal scouts have been keeping a close eye on Barella and have”noted down his qualities”.
Unai Emery is on the look out for another central midfielder as Aaron Ramsey is set to leave Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of the season after failing to agree terms over a new contract so the Gunners could be eyeing Barella as a replacement for the Welshman.
But the north Londoners will face stiff competition as Liverpool have also been strongly linked with the Italian as Jurgen Klopp looks to find a long-term replacement for James Milner while Man Utd are also keeping tabs on Barella amid uncertainly surrounding the future of Ander Herrera.
