Manchester City will look to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table with a win when they welcome Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
City remain unbeaten in the league following a sensational 6-1 demolition of Southampton on Sunday afternoon with Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane among the goal-scorers for Pep Guardiola’s men.
That win, coupled with Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal the previous day, saw City open up a two point lead at the top of the table after 11 games played so they are remain on course to reclaiming the title this season.
However, United will be out to derail those plans as Jose Mourinho tries to haul the Red Devils back in to the top four reckoning following a disappointing start to the new season.
United moved up to seventh in the table – four points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham – with a last-gasp 2-1 win at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon but they are nine points adrift of City so they’ll be desperate to cut that gap with a win on Sunday.
Betting odds
A quick look at the latest Premier League odds shows us that City are the 4/11 favourites to take another three points off United this coming weekend. The visitors can be backed at 13/2 – which seems like huge odds for a Manchester derby – while the draw is available at 21/5.
City have scored 33 goals in their 11 league games so far and United have struggled to keep clean sheets all season so over 3.5 match goals at 27/20 looks a good bet while City to score over 2.5 goals themselves at 6/5 is also tempting.
Mourinho will be desperate to take something off their rivals this weekend and those who believe United can pull off a shock by taking home all three points may be tempting by an away 2-1 win at odds of 18/1.
However, I think City look too good and United have been hugely inconsistent so I can’t see past a home win. My prediction is Man City 3-1 Man Utd, which can be backed at 9/1 with 888sport, and if you want even more value then add Aguero as an anytime goalscorer in a 3-1 win for odds of 14/1.
