Klopp Offers Update After Liverpool Star Suffers Injury During Win At Burnley

Jurgen Klopp has offered an update on Joe Gomez after the defender was stretchered off during Liverpool’s 3-1 comeback victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.
Gomez has been a regular under Klopp this season and once again started for the Reds last night as he lined-up at right-back with Joel Matip recalled alongside Virgil van Dijk in the middle of the back four.
However, the 21-year-old required treatment from the Liverpool medical team midway through the first half after clattering in to the advertising hoardings on the edge of the pitch and was eventually stretchered off in the 23rd minute to be replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Klopp was clearly upset by the physical approach adopted by Burnley throughout the game and the Liverpool boss suggested in his post-match press conference it was a contributing factor in Gomez’s injury.
The German coach confirmed that Gomez has suffered an ankle injury and while further tests are needed to determine the full scale of the problem, Klopp fears the England international may be facing a spell on the sidelines.
Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com:
“It was his ankle. Joe is injured and probably not only a little bit. We have to see, we don’t know in the moment. We sent him home.”
We’ll have to wait and see how serious the injury is but it would be a bitter blow to Liverpool if Gomez is ruled out for any significant period of time as he’s developed in to a key player for the Merseysiders this season.
The youngster has been a mainstay in Klopp’s side having featured 18 times in all competitions so far and has struck up an impressive partnership with van Dijk in defence so Liverpool will be praying for positive news on his injury.
Thankfully for the Reds, they were able to put the Gomez injury behind them last night as they came from 1-0 down to beat Burnley 3-1 thanks to goals from James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri to stay in touch with Man City at the top of the table.
