Manchester United are on the verge of agreeing a £42.5m deal to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka after holding extensive talks with Crystal Palace on Friday, according to the Daily Mail.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly identified Wan-Bissaka as a key target as he looks to strengthen his squad this summer following a disappointing campaign that saw United finish sixth in the Premier League table.
Defence is a particular area of concern as the Manchester giants conceded 54 goals in their 38 league games last season – the most they’ve conceded in 40 years – and a new right-back is on the agenda following the exit of Antonio Valencia.
Matteo Darmian is also expected to head back to Italy this summer, Diogo Dalot is still considered too raw to be a first team regular while Ashley Young turns 34 in September so a long-term replacement is needed at right-back.
United have been working on a deal to sign Wan-Bissaka in recent weeks and the Manchester Evening News claimed last week that the Red Devils have agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old.
Agreeing a fee with Palace has been the major sticking point but the Daily Mail claims the two clubs are now on the verge of an agreement following talks on Friday with United set to pay the Londoners £42.5m up front.
The newspaper says Palace value Wan-Bissaka at around £60m but United will pay closer to that figure with additional add-ons being included in the deal that will take the full-back to Old Trafford this summer.
Wan-Bissaka is currently away with the England U21s at the European Championships but the Three Lions are coming home early after losing their opening two group games so this should help speed-up the full-backs move to United.
The right-back has just come off the back of an excellent campaign with Palace that saw him make 39 appearances in all competitions after establishing himself as a key part of Roy Hodgson’s starting eleven.

However, it appears Wan-Bissaka is now set to join United and he’ll become their second major signing of the summer after they splashed out around £17m on winger Daniel James from Swansea City.
