Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Man Utd want to sign at least two more players this summer…
Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is determined to sign Harry Maguire as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyes a double swoop also involving Sean Longstaff, according to the Evening Standard.
Solskjaer has splashed out on young winger Daniel James and right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer but the United boss is keen to bring in at least two more signings before the window closes in just over two weeks time.
The former striker has focussed his attention on adding a British core to his squad and Maguire has been widely touted as United’s prime target to help shore-up a dodgy defence that conceded 54 Premier League goals last season.
Having seen their £70m offer rejected earlier this month, the Evening Standard claims United remain locked in talks with Leicester City and Woodward is determined to find an agreement despite the Foxes’ £90m valuation.
The newspaper says Maguire is United’s priority signing and Solskjaer hinted today that he’s not given up hope of adding the 26-year-old to his squad before the window slams shut on August 8th.
Manchester United are also in the market for a central midfielder after Ander Herrera joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract and Longstaff has been identified as a potential replacement.
The Standard says United haven’t been put off by Newcastle’s hefty £50m valuation and remain hopeful of getting a deal agree with the Geordies for the highly-rated 21-year-old midfielder.
However, they will no doubt try to drive that price-tag down given Longstaff only made his first team debut for Newcastle on Boxing Day and has played just 9 times in the Premier League.
The Mirror reported recently that United were ready to table a £30m offer – which seems far more reasonable for an inexperienced player like Longstaff – but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to get a deal agreed.

It looks like it’s going to be a busy end to the transfer window at Old Trafford as United try to secure Maguire and Longstaff in deals which could cost them around £140m if Woodward doesn’t manage to drive the asking prices down.
