Predicted Man Utd line-up against Newcastle United

Luke Shaw Man Utd

Manchester United are set to welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford in a Premier League fixture tonight.

The Red Devils haven’t won at home since defeating Brighton and Hove Albion back in October, drawing twice and losing the other one in the last three matches.

Currently, United are seventh in the table with 26 points from 17 games, sitting three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

On the other hand, Newcastle have endured an inconsistent start, languishing in the bottom half of the table. They have won only one match away from home thus far this season.

United previously faced Newcastle on Boxing Day on three occasions, with the Old Trafford club winning all of the games under three different managers.

Team news

Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt remain sidelined due to their respective injury problems, while Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo have also been ruled out owing to injuries.

Moreover, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui have joined their respective national team for AFCON. So, the trio isn’t in contention to be involved in this game. Casemiro was suspended last weekend but is back and available tonight.

Predicted line-up

Senne Lammens is set to keep hold of his place between the sticks, while Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, and Leny Yoro could be the back three. Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu would be the two wing-backs for United.

Amid Bruno and Mainoo’s absence, Casemiro and Manual Ugarte should be the midfield pairing. So, Lisandro Martínez, who displayed a steady performance vs Aston Villa in the engine room, could feature as a substitute if needed. However, United have lost all of those games, which Ugarte has started this season.

Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha are likely to be the two No.10s in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation, with Benjamin Sesko set to lead the line for the hosts.

Therefore, Joshua Zirkzee may feature as a substitute. Amorim has been left with thin backup options due to numerous absences, so he could use a few academy players to make up the numbers on the bench, with Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey making their debut last time out.
