According to The Sun, Manchester United have made an enquiry for Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys.
The Red Devils are actively looking to sign a new left-back during the summer transfer window, considering Luke Shaw’s injury record. Patrick Dorgu is the immediate back-up to the England international, but he has primarily played as a winger under manager Michael Carrick, given he can be defensively vulnerable.
The Sun now reveal that United have already made an enquiry over Seys’ availability, but they are not alone with Arsenal and Aston Villa in the mix among Premier League clubs. Club Brugge are reluctant to part ways with the 21-year-old with three years left on his contract and may only sanction his sale for £30 million.
Big talent
Seys is primarily a left-back by trade but has occasionally featured on the opposite end. The Belgian had a good 2025/26 season with Club Brugge. He notched up 5 goals and 8 assists in 55 appearances for the reigning Pro League champions and went on to represent his country at the World Cup. He came on a substitute against Spain.
Aside from his goal involvements, the young left-back caught the eye with his distribution and defensive contributions. Seys completed 88 percent of his passes in the league phase of the Champions League. He also registered 2 tackles, 4 recoveries and 2 clearances per game for his club, while winning almost 60% of his duels.
Hence, he looks a quality full-back. United may see him as a direct competitor to Shaw. Shaw stayed unscathed throughout the last campaign, but his injury record over the past 12 years at the club suggest that he could be vulnerable to another setback, particularly with the Red Devils back in Europe through the Champions League next season.
Arsenal are mentioned as potential suitors, but they are loaded with left-back choices. They got Riccardo Calafiori, Piero Hincapie and Myles Lewis-Skelly as specialists, while Jurrien Timber can play there too. Villa may not compete for Seys’ signature either, given they have Ian Maatsen and are close to signing Atletico’s Matteo Ruggeri.
The door is open for the Red Devils to bring Seys to Old Trafford.
