Everton eye move to sign Benfica defender Amar Dedic

Amar-Dedic

Everton are reportedly interested in signing SL Benfica defender Amar Dedic, as per TEAMtalk.

After moving to the Estadio da Luz from Red Bull Salzburg last summer, the 23-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign in Primeira Liga, making five goal contributions and keeping 10 clean sheets in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Moreover, he helped his side finish the league campaign unbeaten. Having proven his worth in club football, the youngster has secured his place in the Bosnia and Herzegovina squad.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Everton are interested in Dedic after monitoring his development closely. Although his existing deal is set to run until 2030, Benfica are prepared to cash-in on him for a fee of around £26m this summer.

However, the Toffees will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Fulham and Newcastle United are also in this race. Like Everton, the Cottagers have been keeping a close eye on his situation.

But the Magpies have already made contact with Benfica to sign him, while Dedic is ready to move to St James’ Park. Having previously worked together at Liefering and Salzburg, Dedic knows Matthias Jaissle very well and is keen on reuniting with his former boss.

On the other hand, Jaissle has approved the 23-year-old’s acquisition, although Newcastle have been interested in Dedic even before the appointment of the former Al-Ahli manager.

However, the report state that Dedic isn’t the only name on Newcastle’s wishlist. Therefore, it isn’t guaranteed that they will opt to purchase him this summer.

Dedic can be deployed on either fullback position and is comfortable with both feet. He is an attack-minded, explosive defender. Moreover, he can deliver excellent crosses from the flanks and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Dedic is a talented player and possesses high potential. Therefore, the Bosnian might be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they purchase him.

The right-back has been a long-standing problematic position for Everton, and David Moyes is seemingly planning to address this issue this summer.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually manage to secure Dedic’s services by defeating Newcastle in this race.
