Tottenham & Chelsea interested in signing Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister, as per Caught Offside.

Since moving to Anfield from Brighton and Hove Albion, the 27-year-old has established himself as an integral part of the Reds’ starting line-up.

He has helped his side win the Premier League title and a Carabao Cup in recent years and has even won a World Cup and Copa America with Argentina. The midfielder helped his country reach the World Cup final earlier this summer but unfortunately lost the final to Spain.

Last season, Mac Allister showed his productivity, scoring five goals and registering seven assists in 55 appearances across all competitions.

Now, Caught Offside claim that although Tottenham have bolstered the midfield department by purchasing Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, they initially expressed their interest in Mac Allister earlier in this window.

Chelsea are also interested in him and have made contact over this deal in recent weeks. Moreover, Real Madrid previously wanted to purchase him, while Manchester City recently held talks to sign him.

However, Liverpool have no intention of parting ways with him, and Mac Allister doesn’t want to leave either as he is keen on playing under Andoni Iraola.

So, they have rejected all approaches, and Liverpool are planning to open talks with the midfielder to extend his contract, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. The report state that Liverpool slapped an £86m price tag on Mac Allister’s head in July to keep the vultures away.

Mac Allister is a versatile player as he can be deployed anywhere across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Although the South American isn’t a tall player, he is good in the air. Mac Allister is a top-class midfielder and has proven his worth at the highest level for club and country in recent years.

Moreover, the Liverpool star is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, Mac Allister would have been a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham or Chelsea had either club managed to secure his services during this offseason.
