Manchester United preparing bid to sign Barcelona and Spain midfielder Gavi

With the Premier League season less than a week away, clubs are scrambling to finalise their squads in time and Manchester United are among them as they eye improved depth as they will be participating in the Champions League also this year.
El Nacional has reported that midfield remains an area of focus for the Red Devils, who are now interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Gavi as Michael Carrick looks for deeper-lying options in the engine room.
According to the Catalan source, Gavi is considering his future at Camp Nou, especially after Rodri’s signing from Manchester City, and United are ready to offer up to £47 million for him – £33 million in fixed proceeds and £14 million in bonuses.
Over the last couple of years, the 22-year-old has struggled with fitness issues and that combined with Hansi Flick’s anticipated preference towards Frenkie de Jong, Pedri and Rodri could push the La Masia graduate down the pecking order next season.
Gavi a crucial signing for United
While Manchester United have acquired Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, Gavi’s energy in midfield would be a big asset for them if they are able to secure his services from Barcelona this summer.
The Spanish international, who was part of their World Cup squad this summer, is superb in tight spaces, has a vision for progressive passing and is also press resistant against his opponents.
Gavi’s defensive abilities will be particularly handy for the Red Devils as he makes smart interceptions, accurate tackles and has a competitiveness and tenacity about him which elevates the quality of a team’s midfield.
Considering Barcelona have invested a significant sum this summer, they may now need to offload some players in order to balance their books and view an offer for Gavi favourably if indeed Manchester United make one.
It will be interesting to see how much the young midfielder is valued at should he be available for sale.
