Man Utd tempting Alejandro Balde, agent has received offer

Manchester United are tempting Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde over a potential move before the transfer window closes next week, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The Red Devils had a dismal start to the new Premier League season with a 2-0 loss to Hull City on the road. Man United were much fancied to beat the Tigers at the MKM Stadium, but failed to show up with a credible performance.

The defensive showing was particularly unimpressive and United may seek an upgrade or two before the deadline. AS now claim that United are ‘tempting’ Balde into a move before the window closes.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo add that Balde hopes to stay at the Spanish champions, but could decide to leave if the club ask him to.

His agent Jorge Mendes has received several offers including one from United, who are eager to bring him to Old Trafford.

Good talent

The Red Devils currently have Shaw as the undisputed starter in the left-back position. The 31-year-old started every game in the Premier League last term, which was quite a surprise, given his concerning injury record during his 12 years at the club.

However, the hierarchy will no doubt want a quality competitor for the current campaign, given Patrick Dorgu has looked defensively vulnerable. The Dane has been more adept as a left-sided winger where he has played since the turn of the year.

Shaw has shown some signs of regression during pre-season and one can’t expect him to play 60 or more games, suppose go deep in the Cup and European competitions this term. Balde would be a good candidate to share the minutes with the Englishman.

The 22-year-old is a good ball-playing left-back and completed 92% of his passes in La Liga last season. The Spaniard also won almost 60% of his overall duels for the Catalan heavyweights and likewise impressed with his recovery pace.

Still, an underlying concern remains his fitness just like Shaw. Balde has suffered numerous injury setbacks and was absent for 10 matches last term with a couple of injuries. He would be a top-notch signing for United but there is some risk associated.

Barcelona are looking for £34-39 million to part ways with their graduate, according to Sport. United will no doubt want to bargain on the final fee, given the Spaniard’s injury record. A deal for around £25-30m would represent good business.
