Manchester United keen on signing Brighton left back Ferdi Kadioglu

Manchester United plot £50 million transfer for Brighton defender Ferdi Kadioglu after Carlos Baleba signing | Goal.com

Manchester United have announced Carlos Baleba’s purchase from Brighton & Hove Albion a while ago with the player joining Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans as the club’s latest additions in midfield in the ongoing transfer window.

According to Turkish source As Marca, business between the Red Devils and the Seagulls might not yet be done for the summer as Michael Carrick’s side is now believed to be keen on signing Ferdi Kadioglu from the south coast club.

Brighton value Kadioglu at £40 million, according to the source, with United likely to see their asking price within budget owing to their need for a left back’s purchase sooner rather than later considering the room for upgrade in the role over Luke Shaw.

Patrick Dorgu was acquired last year from Serie A side Lecce to be the club’s long-term investment at full back but has come good in a more advanced role under Carrick, hence the Red Devils’ renewed interest in revamping the position.

Kadioglu’s addition will leave doubts at United

Without question, Ferdi Kadioglu is another high quality player on Brighton & Hove Albion’s roster but unlike some of his current and former teammates, whether he is good enough to sign for a bigger Premier League side is debatable.

Kadioglu is excellent with the ball at his feet and can attack well, thanks to his pace, passing and crossing. He is also able to invert into midfield, but does not offer as much as Manchester United would want defensively as he struggles physically and aerially.

One of the biggest reasons behind the 27-year-old’s shortcomings at the back is that he started his career as a winger but adapted the role of a left full back later on. If United bring him in, they risk facing the same proposition as Dorgu and employing him higher up the pitch rather than in his natural role.

Ferdi Kadioglu’s signing might not generate as much value to Man United as they would want in a long-term left back, so it will be interesting to see who else they have on their wish-list.
