Man Utd keen on signing Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys, as per Football Insider.

Following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s serious knee injury, the Red Devils prioritised revamping the midfield department this summer.

They have signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brighton and Hove Albion, respectively. Santos and Tielemans even started United’s opening Premier League game against Hull City, but they ended up on the losing side.

Now, Football Insider report that Man Utd are also considering purchasing a new left-back, and Newcastle United star Lewis Hall was the primary target.

However, the Magpies have refused to let him leave this summer, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. So, United have been forced to explore alternative options and have identified Seys as a top target. But they hope to buy him for less than his £30m price tag.

The report state that apart from the Belgian, Man Utd are also interested in Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde, RB Leipzig’s David Raum and Racing Santander star Jorge Salinas.

United currently have Luke Shaw as the first-choice left-back option. Although he started every Premier League match last term, he has had numerous fitness problems over the years.

Seys to Man Utd

Shaw has displayed inconsistent performances in recent times and has entered the final few months of his current contract. So, his long-term future is currently uncertain at Old Trafford.

Patrick Dorgu was signed from Lecce last year as a potential replacement for Shaw. However, the Dane has been mainly playing as a forward under Michael Carrick.

Moreover, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can provide cover in the left-back position if needed. However, the duo are right-footed right-backs by trait.

Therefore, United could do with signing a new left-back, and Seys could be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club eventually opt to secure his services before the September 1st transfer deadline.

Meanwhile, Man Utd are set to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
