Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing Barcelona defender Eric Garcia

Huge relief for Barcelona as Eric Garcia escapes serious injury after bloody nose scare at Mestalla | Goal.com

Roberto De Zerbi has yet to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a win in the Premier League this season three matchdays in but the board and the manager are already devising plans over their squad rebuild head into 2027.

Ekrem Konur has reported that Tottenham are among several English and overseas clubs interested in signing Barcelona defender Eric Garcia having been impressed by his impact at Camp Nou under Hansi Flick.

Garcia has started in three games for the Blaugrana this season and has proven his versatility as a right back as well as a central defender, so his signing, off the back of extensive appearance in La Liga and the Premier League, is an attractive proposition.

The Spanish international’s acquisition will not be cheap, however, as he is tied down to a contract at Barca until June 2031 and although he is valued at £34 million on Transfermarkt, his asking price could be significantly higher.

Spurs not likely to be strong contenders for Garcia’s signatures

Eric Garcia would be a brilliant signing for Tottenham Hotspur. His tactical intelligence and composed defending, coupled with a versatile character in the back four would have been huge assets, especially at right back to compete with Pedro Porro.

However, the 25-year-old’s transfer to Hotspur Way is seeming like a tall order as not only has he already played in England, but joining Spurs would mean reducing his chances of winning silverware and potentially playing fewer minutes too.

Spurs are also set to face competition for Garcia’s services from a number of other clubs, not least Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, and the opportunity to win trophies and play in the Champions League with them would be a lot more attractive.

While there is a little chance that Tottenham will be favourites to bring Eric Garcia in, they need a right back to lift some workload off Pedro Porro and it remains to be seen if there are any plans to fill the area in January with a new recruit.
