Arsenal reportedly made contact to sign Brentford forward Kevin Schade this summer, as per TEAMtalk.
After being impressed by the 24-year-old’s performances for German side Freiburg, the Bees decided to sign him. Initially, he moved to the Gtech Community Stadium on loan in January 2023 before the deal became permanent the following summer.
At first, Schade featured as a rotational option for Brentford before establishing himself as a key starter. After making 15 goal contributions during the 2024/25 season, he tallied 11 goals and assists last term. This season, he has scored a solitary goal in three Premier League appearances.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that after letting Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli leave this summer, Arsenal were planning to purchase two new left-wingers.
They expressed their interest in Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior, but the Englishman decided to join Chelsea, while the Brazilian opted to stay at Real Madrid by signing a fresh term.
After failing to sign primary targets, the Gunners shifted focus to alternative options and made contact to learn about the details of signing Schade.
However, the report state that Brentford refused to let him leave. They wouldn’t even allow his departure for more than the club record fee of around £70m, which Manchester United paid to sign Bryan Mbeumo last summer.
Schade to Arsenal
With the German’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Brentford are planning to tie him down to a fresh long-term contract before next summer and have opened talks.
TEAMtalk report that apart from Arsenal, Bayern Munich are also interested in him, while Jurgen Klopp is expected to select him in the German squad for the upcoming international break, having been impressed by his recent development.
Meanwhile, Arsenal eventually only managed to sign one left-winger in the shape of Christos Tzolis, and Mikel Arteta has used Eberechi Eze to support the former Club Brugge star during the first few games of this season.
Schade is a right-footed left-winger by trait but can provide cover centrally if needed. He is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he would have been a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal had they managed to secure his services this summer.
