Everton eye move to sign Chelsea forward Jamie Gittens

Everton are reportedly weighing up a swoop to sign Chelsea forward Jamie Gittens, as per TEAMtalk.

After being impressed by the 22-year-old’s performances for Borussia Dortmund, the Blues decided to purchase him last year. However, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League, with fitness problems being one of the key reasons.

The Englishman scored a solitary goal last term and hasn’t played a single minute in the Premier League thus far. Still, TEAMtalk state that Chelsea consider him a key player for their future.

So, the West London club don’t want to sell him permanently and are planning to let him leave on loan in January to play regularly and develop his career.

The report state that Everton hold a long-standing interest in Gittens but see him as a potential replacement for Jack Grealish, whose future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium is currently uncertain following off-field issues.

However, he is expected to stay until the end of this season. Apart from Everton, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Leeds United are also interested in Gittens.

Moreover, AS Roma, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are in this race. So, despite his recent struggles at Stamford Bridge, he isn’t short of potential suitors.

Gittens to Everton

Apart from Grealish, Everton currently have Tyrique George as the left-wing option. However, he is still very young and needs time to develop, scoring a solitary goal thus far this season.

Gittens is a right-footed left-winger by trait but can provide cover on the opposite side if needed. He is quick, technically sound, and can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas.

Although he hasn’t been able to showcase his best at Chelsea, he is a talented player and has plenty of time on his side to turn the situation around. A change of environment might even help him achieve that.

Therefore, Gittens, valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt, could be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Hill Dickinson Stadium next year.

Meanwhile, Everton have entered the international break with a 3-1 victory over Coventry City in the Premier League.
