Chelsea vs Man Utd Preview, Team News, Likely Line-ups & Predicted Score
Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for their Capital One Cup clash. Here’s a preview with team news, likely line-ups and predicted score.
Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge for the second time in four days as the duo square off in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night.
The Premier League giants will be hoping the post-match talk will be about the football after a controversial game on Sunday, with the fall-out centered around allegations made towards referee Mark Clattenburg.
Roberto Di Matteo’s side came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline after seeing both Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres sent off, and the Italian will be looking for revenge over their title rivals tonight.
Team News
The Blues are expected to make several changes to the side that lost on Sunday. Suspension rules out John Terry as well as Ivanovic and Torres after their dismissals at the weekend. Frank Lampard remains on the sidelines with a calf strain.
Ross Turnbull is expected to come in along with summer signing Cesar Azpillicueta while Ryan Bertrand should replace Ashley Cole at left back.
Romeu, Victor Moses, Marko Marin, Daniel Sturridge and Lucas Piazon are all expected to be given a chance to impress at the Bridge.
Sir Alex Ferguson could make eleven changes to the side that beat the hosts on Sunday. Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck could lead the line with Fergie opting to use two wingers again after that tactic was deployed at the weekend to huge success.
Youngsters Scott Wooton, Marnik Vermijl and Michael Keane are likely to start alongside summer signing Alexander Buttner at the back. Nani, Ryan Giggs, Anderson and Darren Fletcher may also get some game-time in midfield.
Likely Line up
Predicted Score
If the two sides line-up as expected, it’s going to be a fascinating battle. Chelsea’s defence is far more experienced but the same can be said of United’s forward line and midfield, so it may all come down to who comes out on top between United’s attack and Chelsea’s defence.
However, Sturridge, Moses and Marin are more than capable of causing United’s young and inexperienced defence a lot of trouble and we can see the Blues edging this game for that reason. Chelsea 2-1 Man Utd.
