Heidel Denies Arsenal Interest In Striker
Mainz manager Christian Heidel has dismissed reports linking Arsenal with a move for striker Adam Szalai and claims it will take around €20m to land the player
With the January transfer window now open for business we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Mainz deny Arsenal interest in striker.
Mainz manager Christian Heidel has dismissed reports linking Arsenal with a move for striker Adam Szalai and claims it will take an offer of around €20m (£16m) to land the player, according to Sky Sports.
The 25-year-old has been in excellent form this season, scoring 9 goals in 17 Bundesliga games so far this campaign. Sky Sports suggest that Arsenal have joined the likes of Wolfsburg, Lazio and German champions Borussia Dortmund in showing an interest in the Hungarian international.
However, Mainz boss Heidel insists we’ve not been in touch regarding their striker and they’d be reluctant to let him go this month, but may be persuaded to do business if an offer of €20m (£16m) was put on the table. He’s quoted as saying by Sky Sports:
“Arsenal haven’t contacted us,”
“We don’t want to let our striker go in the winter transfer window. But that’s another situation if someone willing to pay 20 million Euros for him.”
Szalai was also quizzed on the reports linking him with the Gunners but he insists he’s heard nothing and is only focused on doing well with Mainz this season.
“I don’t know anything about it. The season is long, I don’t know what will happen at the end of it.
“My aim is to collect as many points as we can and get as far as we can in the German Cup. Summer we can talk about what happened.”
Szalai was quoted as saying by Sky Sports
I must admit I know little about this player and he’s only really found some form this season. Szalai was at Real Madrid between 2007-2010 but was consigned to life in the B team and only scored 8 goals during his first three years in German.

Put simply, I’m not exactly crying into my cornflakes after hearing we haven’t made a move for him! I think Arsenal are at a stage when we need to stop going for ‘potential’ and start signing the real deal. Over to you Arsene….
