FIFA Launch Investigation Into Luis Suarez ‘Punch’

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez could be in hot water after FIFA opened an investigation against him following an alleged ‘punch’ thrown at Gonzalo Jara last month, according to the Metro.

Suarez was playing for Uruguay during a 2-0 loss to Chile in a World Cup qualifier in March when he appeared to strike defender Jara as the two players jostled while waiting for a corner to be taken.

The referee didn’t take any action at the time as he and his assistants failed to see the incident, but it seems FIFA are now ready to take retrospective action after the Uruguayan Football Association announced they governing body have now opened proceedings against the Liverpool hitman to see if he a case to answer. A UFA statement said:

‘FIFA have opened a case against Suarez,’

‘Our lawyers are looking into the matter right now.’ according to the Metro.

The UFA have until April 17th to respond to the charge and Suarez will also be expected to give his version of events, but if he’s found guilty it will not only lead to a lengthy ban but also further damage the talented forward’s reputation.
