[Video] Meet The £24m Powerhouse David Moyes Wants To Solve His Midfielder Problems
According to reports today, Manchester United boss David Moyes has found the man he wants to solve his midfield problems next season. Find out who here.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, meet the £24m-rated ace David Moyes wants this summer.
According to reports today, Manchester United boss David Moyes has found the man he wants to solve his midfield problems next season – Sporting Lisbon ace William Carvalho.
Dubbed by some as the ‘New Patrick Vieira’, the powerful central midfielder has been an impressive force in the center of the park for Sporting since he broke into the first team squad. He’s also forced his way into the Portuguese national team, making his debut against Sweden in their World Cup play-offs back in November and he’s expected to be on the plane to Brazil this summer.
His potential also hasn’t gone unnoticed here in England with the Daily Mail claiming that Manchester United have now made him their No.1 midfield transfer target and will step up their interest at the end of the season after having the player watched by their scouts 12 times already this season.
However, Carvalho isn’t going to come cheap. He has a €45m (£37m) release clause in his contract, which Moyes is unlikely to meet, but the newspaper suggests that United have been encouraged after learning that Sporting would be willing to cash-in for around £24m.
The Portuguese giants are still keen to hang on to the youngster for at least one more year though, and are desperately trying to tie the 21-year-old down to a new €50,000-a-month contract as he’s currently only on his original deal worth just 5,000-a-month.
But the player and his agents will be well aware they could potentially earn substantially more than that at Old Trafford, so a move could be on the cards if, as expected, United make their interest official at the end of the season.
Moyes is almost certainly going to be in the market for a new central midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is now 33, Tom Cleverley has had a disappointing season and isn’t progressing as hoped, while Marouane Fellaini has struggled for form and fitness this season, and Carvalho could fit the bill nicely.
