[Photo] Sanchez Flies Home To Seal Move As Man City Eye £40m Bid To Gazump Rivals

By on July 5, 2014

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, the latest on the future of Alexis Sanchez.

Alexis Sanchez has flown back to Spain to resolve his future with reports claiming that Manchester City are now ready to gazump rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United with a £40m offer for the Barcelona attacker.

Sanchez has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the summer transfer window after Barca chiefs made it clear they were willing to cash-in on the 25-year-old as he doesn’t feature in new boss Luis Enrique’s first team plans.

Understandably, a whole host of clubs have been linked with the Chilean international in recent weeks, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all understood to be keen on luring him to the Premier League.

Liverpool are believed to have asked for Sanchez to be part of any deal involving Luis Suarez heading to the Nou Camp, but conflicting reports suggest the player has turned down the opportunity to move to Anfield with Spanish source Mundo Deportivo suggesting the player would prefer a switch to the Emirates – although some believe the Merseysiders still haven’t given up hope.

It’s reported that the Gunners have so far offered £31m for the attacker and Arsene Wenger is confident of getting the deal over the line. However, all that could be about to change with the Daily Star claiming that Man City are ready to blow their rivals out the water with a mammoth £40m bid with boss Manuel Pellegrini seemingly keen on adding his compatriot to his expensively assembled squad at the Etihad.

Whether that turns out to be the case remains to be seen, but if true, the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are going to have to up their offers or risk missing out on Sanchez altogether.

It would be a huge blow for either club as Brendan Rodgers tries to find a replacement for Barca-bound Suarez while Wenger is on the look-out for attacking reinforcements to help support Olivier Giroud next season.

Sanchez has just enjoyed an excellent World Cup which came off the back of his best season at the Nou Camp following his move from Udinese in 2011, but his 21 goals and 15 assists haven’t done enough to persuade Barcelona to hang on to him and the attacker has now cut short his holiday to head back to Spain to resolve his future.

Former Chile president Sebastián Piñera uploaded a photo to his Instagram account late last night of him with Sanchez along with a message saying “surprise encounter with Sanchez who is on his way back to Spain”. Spanish newspaper AS claim the player was en route back to Catalonia for talks with Barca officials where he’s set to reveal which club he wants to join.

I’m sure Arsenal and Liverpool fans will be waiting with bated breath to find out his decision, but there could yet be a final twist if Man City, or indeed Man Utd, make a late push for his signature.

He will go to City and spend his time on the bench earning stupid wages because Chity don’t have to worry about new rules and balancing the books all they have to do is get one the owners tenth cousin 5 times removed to sponsor their toilets for £100M per season and this cousins brother to sponsor the goal posts for the same amount we may as well chuck the rule book out with the rubbish.

Clearly you have missed the fact that City can’t spend more than £50 million this season with the recent sanctions placed on them by UEFA. Given it’s widely reported that City’s main priority is a new centre back to partner Kompany, there simply won’t be enough in the pot for City to buy anyone else over £20 million.

Rather than take cheap potshots, maybe you should look at the facts first. Also, I don’t think Arsenal, United or Liverpool fans should be getting all ethical about football when your clubs tried to ring fence champions league football not too long ago.

The Abu Dhabi royal family are killing the English Premier League for the ordinary supporter’s, Just to satisfy there own egos. They lived for years as bedu and just happen to be sleeping on trillions of the worlds oil reserves.

At least allow the signing to go through before you jump to conclusions regarding Man City! So far they have spend £12m! That leaves £37m plus cash from any sales! Rodwell £10/12m, Richards £9/10m, Sinclair £we’ll pay you to take him! and possibly Negrado £25m! How have they killed the Premier League? If it wasn’t for Man City and Chelsea, Man Utd would have won the league for 9 or eve 10 consecutive years! What you mean is they have enhanced the English top flight!

“The Abu Dhabi royal family are killing the English Premier League for the ordinary supporter’s”

On no they are not. City season tickets are a fraction of Arsenal’s whose are the highest.

Remind me which royal family sponsor the Gooner’s stadium?

        I smell hypocrisy!

Doubt very much that City would be after him. Definitely can’t see him at United – mid table team with nothing to offer and a new coach who prefers to play long ball.

I said “don’t count our chickens”earlier this week, but if this happens and he signs for any other team then we will all feel very much let down. But it is typical of how we do transfers we get our hopes built up then when things don’t happen all the excuses are rolled out. Please don’t let this happen do everything to sign this top player.

It doesn’t matter what we as fans want or what we think our clubs should do, THE player will decide where he wants to play, as an LFC fan I would love to see him playing for us but I have a feeling he is Emirates bound.

He only prefers Arsenal so he can live in London! What a dickhead. Wouldn’t want him at Anfield with an attitude like that. We’ll just kick his ass on the pitch. Enjoy London. Muppet!

Pls winger if mancity are greedily…mad and willing to pay that much to add to their already top 3 strikers, and then Sanchez is ok to come from Barcelona bench and agree to mancity bench instead of regular football with u at Emirate, I will say let them have him look for another player, it’s not about the name it’s all about result at the end of each season. Sanchez or no Sanchez Arsenal must play football in an unchangeable way like they always do.
