Manchester United will be looking to continue their recent good form when they take on Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Here’s the starting eleven I think Louis van Gaal will go with:

Goalkeeper: No decision for van Gaal to make in goal as David De Gea is certain to start on Saturday.

Defence: Chris Smalling faces a late fitness test after missing last weekend’s win over Aston Villa due to illness but van Gaal says he’s confident the defender will be able to play. If he’s recalled to the starting eleven, then Phil Jones is likely to be the man to make way with Marcos Rojo expected to keep his place in defence.

Luke Shaw is also a doubt with a hamstring injury but van Gaal is less optimistic he’ll be passed fit, so Daley Blind is likely to play at left-back while Antonio Valencia should keep his place on the right ahead of Rafael.

Midfield: Michael Carrick will continue in the holding role while Ander Herrera should keep his place alongside him in midfield after scoring a brace last weekend. Juan Mata should also keep his place but we could see Angel Di Maria make his return to the starting eleven after coming off the bench once again last week to grab another assist. Ashley Young may feel unlucky if he’s the man to make way.

Attack: Robin van Persie is back in full training but van Gaal has confirmed the Dutchman won’t be considered for selection on Sunday so Wayne Rooney will continue to lead the line up front with Marouane Fellaini in support. Out-of-favour striker Radamel Falcao is expected to continue on the bench.

Here is how I think we’ll see United line-up:

What do you think? What line-up would you like to see start?
