Man Utd Agree Terms With South American, Transfer To Be Announced Within Hours
Manchester United are set to wrap-up a deal for Sergio Romero after the Argentinean goalkeeper agreed terms over a three-year contract worth €1.8m per season
With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Sergio Romero…
Manchester United are set to wrap-up a deal for Sergio Romero after the Argentinean goalkeeper agreed terms over a three-year contract worth €1.8m net per season, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Romero had been with Sampdoria since joining the club in 2010 but is now a free agent after his contract expired at the end of June and he’s been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.
The Express reported last week that the Argentinean international was set to fly in to the UK formalise his move to United while the Daily Star claimed earlier this week that the goalkeeper had arrived to complete his medical tests.
It appears the proposed deal is now on the verge of completion as Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Romero has now agreed terms over a three-year contract worth €1.8m net per season.
The Italian outlet suggests that the deal was struck during a meeting with the players agent, Mino Raiola, on Wednesday morning while TuttoMercataWeb run a similar story and claim that the deal will be announced within the coming hours.
Obviously we’ll have to wait for official news to come from one of the parties involved but it does appear that Romero is close to joining United and becoming their fifth major signing of the summer.
United have been linked with several goalkeepers this summer but most have been touted as potential replacements for David De Gea. However, the good news for Red Devil fans is that Romero is expected to come in to replace Victor Valdes as No.2.
Louis van Gaal confirmed at his press conference earlier this week that Valdes would be sold this summer after apparently refusing to play for the reserves [via Sky Sports] and I think we’ll see Romero come in to replace the Spaniard as back-up for De Gea next season.

van Gaal knows the 28-year-old well from their time together at AZ Alkmaar and the Argentine has proven himself to be a top keeper on his day while he already has 62 caps for his country, so I think it will be an excellent piece of business from United if they do end up snapping him up on a free transfer.
