Chelsea take on Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes tonight in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie. 

The Blues arrive in the French capital off the back of an impressive 5-1 victory over Newcastle United which extended their unbeaten run following the arrival of Guus Hiddink as interim manager.

However, that record will come under severe threat tonight as PSG are in excellent form themselves having not lost in any of their last 23 matches in all competitions and the Ligue 1 champions have won 16 of their last 17 outings.

The two teams know each other very well as they met at the same stage of last years Champions League with PSG progressing on the away goals rule after the tie had finished 3-3 following a dramatic 2-2 second-leg draw at Stamford Bridge.

They also met in the quarter-finals in 2014, when Chelsea progressed after winning the second leg 2-0 at the Bridge to book their place in the last four of the competition on the away goals rule.

Despite their domestic woes this season, it’s promising to be just as close this time around as Chelsea have remained solid in Europe and have turned around their form following the arrival of Hiddink.

Team news

Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow after skipper John Terry was ruled out with a hamstring injury that he suffered against Newcastle at the weekend.

With Kurt Zouma already out for the season with a knee injury, Matt Miazga has been included in the squad but Branislav Ivanovic is expected to partner Gary Cahill in the middle of defence.

Oscar has travelled to Paris for the game after recovering from a minor calf injury but Nemanja Matic will miss out due to suspension while Alexandre Pato has been left back in London to work on his fitness.

As for PSG, they’ll be without full-back Serge Aurier after he was suspended by the club after a video emerged of him aiming homophobic slurs at a number of the clubs players and staff members.

Midfielder Marco Verratti made his injury comeback at the weekend but Laurent Blanc has hinted that he won’t risk the Italian tonight.

PSG 2-1 Chelsea: The Blues have regained some form lately and I do think they’ll cause PSG plenty of problems tonight. However, the French outfit are a strong unit and I can see them edging this one…but I’m backing Chelsea to score a priceless away goal.
