The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham close-in on the signing of Vincent Janssen….
AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen is expected to fly-in to London today to undergo his medical ahead of a move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Express.
Spurs have been strongly linked with a move for Janssen in recent weeks as Maurico Pochettino looks to strengthen his squad ahead of their participation in the Champions League next season.
The 22-year-old has developed in to one of the hottest properties in Dutch football after netting 32 goals in all competitions during his first ever campaign in top-flight football to help AZ finish fourth in the Eredivisie.
The Evening Standard claim that Tottenham have been in advanced negotiations with AZ in recent days after seeing an initial £15m offer rejected as the Dutch outfit held out for a fee nearer £16.5m,
Janssen confirmed on Friday morning he will no longer train with AZ as the clubs are close to an agreement and he is looking forward to making the move to White Hart Lane where he’ll compete with Harry Kane for a place in Pochettino’s starting eleven.
The striker is quoted as saying by the Standard:
“I won’t train with AZ anymore. The clubs are now really close to an agreement. I will go home and wait for the phone call to go.
“I’m glad that it is almost complete. For me it was clear from the beginning that I wanted to go to Spurs. The competition appeals to me and the plan of the coach is similar to the plan that AZ boss John van den Brom shared with me a year ago at AZ.
“It is a beautiful club with a fantastic stadium and heaps of potential. Anyone in my shoes would take this step.
“Harry Kane? People can say what they want but I’m not afraid of anybody. He is a great striker but we will see how it goes. We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him.”
However, it seems the two clubs must have come to some sort of agreement as the Express are citing reports coming from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that claim Janssen is now due to fly-in to London today and undergo his medical with Spurs.
No confirmation has come out from either club [at the time of writing] but it does appear Spurs on are the verge of completing their second major signing of the summer following the arrival of midfielder Victor Wanyama last month.

Janssen will provide quality competition for Kane next season and while the England international is expected to remain Pochettino’s first choice striker, the Dutch youngster is sure to get plenty of game time as the north Londoners try to compete in several competitions next year.
