Chelsea have confirmed on Chelseafc.com that N’Golo Kante has joined the club after signing a five-year contract following his move from Leicester City.

Kante’s future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months after the midfielder helped Leicester secure a stunning Premier League title win following his move from Caen 12 months ago.

The 25-year-old played a key role behind the Foxes charge towards the title and his superb performances in the middle of the park saw him nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award.

Understandably, Kante attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs and Chelsea soon emerged as favourites for his signature after the midfielder rejected a new contract extension at the King Power.

French outlet RMC Sport claimed on Friday that Kante was due to undergo his medical with Chelsea after a deal was agreed with Leicester and the transfer was expected to be completed over the weekend.

Those formalities have now been finalised as Chelsea have confirmed on their official website that Kante has joined the club on a five year contract. No fee has been disclosed but Sky Sports News claim Chelsea have paid £32m to the champions.

After completing his move, Kante told Chelseafc.com:

‘I am so happy to have signed for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. It’s a dream come true for me.

‘The opportunity to work with Antonio Conte, a brilliant coach, and some of the best players in the world was simply too good to turn down.

‘My first season in English football was very special and now I hope to go on to achieve even more during my time as a Chelsea player. I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and helping the club achieve a lot of success.’

Kante becomes new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Belgian international striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.

Conte is expected to deploy a 3-5-2 formation next season and he wanted an energetic ball-winner to anchor the midfield, and there aren’t many better players in that role than Kante right now so he should be a superb addition to their squad.
