Manchester United and Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Lassana Diarra this summer, according to the Evening Standard.
Diarra knows Premier League football well having previously spent time with Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth between 2005 and 2009 but struggled to establish himself before making what looked like a dream move to Real Madrid.
A reasonably successful three-year stint in Spain led to a move to Russia where he played for Anzhi Makhachkala and Lokomotiv Moscow before he joined Marseille on a free transfer in the summer of 2015.
Diarra rediscovered his best form back in his homeland and his superb form at the base of the Marseille midfield saw him initially named in Didier Deschamps squad for Euro 2016 before injury cruelly ruled him out of the tournament.
However, despite the 31-year-old’s impressive form, Marseille only managed to finish 13th in the Ligue 1 table last season and Diarra is now set to leave the club due to an agreement in his contract that allows him to walk away for nothing if they failed to qualify for a European competition.
Diarra has been linked with a move back to England and the Evening Standard claim that Manchester United and Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs who’ve been contacted about a possible deal.
The newspaper suggests that both Valencia and Galatasaray are ready to offer the midfielder a fresh start but I’m sure Diarra would be tempted to try his luck here in England if the likes of Spurs or United were to take up this opportunity to sign him for free.
Jose Mourinho is on the look out for midfield reinforcements and while United are believed to be closing-in on a big money deal for Paul Pogba, with Bastian Schweinsteiger set to leave the Portuguese coach could be tempted to make a move for Diarra as the two know each other well from their time together at Madrid.

Mauricio Pochettino has already splashed out on holding midfielder Victor Wanyama so it’s appears unlikely that Spurs will compete for Diarra’s signature unless they pick up a serious injury to their midfield over the coming weeks.
