Transfer News: Man Utd Plotting Late Swoop For 28-Year-Old International
Manchester United are plotting a shock late swoop on Everton for Seamus Coleman as Jose Mourinho looks to make a last gasp foray in to the transfer market
It’s January deadline day and it’s expected to be another busy time with clubs battling to get last minute deals over the line so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with a surprise late swoop for Seamus Coleman….
Manchester United are plotting a shock late swoop on Everton for Seamus Coleman as Jose Mourinho looks to make a last gasp foray in to the transfer market, according to a report in the Metro.
Like most of the big clubs, United have been extremely quiet this month and Jose Mourinho has insisted in recent weeks that he was happy with the balance of his squad heading in to the second half of the campaign.
However, it looks like the ‘Special One’ could yet make a last gasp dip in to the market as the Metro are citing a report from the Sun that claims United are plotting a late swoop on Everton for Coleman.
The Republic of Ireland international has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford after developing in to one of the most consistent right-backs in the Premier League since moving to Goodison Park in 2009.
A move has failed to materialise so far but the Metro suggest that United could yet make another attempt to sign the 28-year-old before the January transfer window slams shut at midday tonight.
Neither United nor Everton are in action this evening as they both play on Wednesday night so theoretically Coleman would be available to complete a move to Old Trafford if a deal was agreed.
However, the full-back has distanced himself from the speculation over a move to United after saying he hasn’t heard of any interest being shown in him and is only concentrating on tomorrow night’s game.
Colemand is quoted as saying by the Metro:
‘It’s that time of year.
‘I haven’t heard about the story. I am preparing for a game on Wednesday and that is all I am concentrating on.’
I’d personally be shocked if anything was to come of this as Mourinho has recently praised Antonio Valencia as the best right-back in the league while he’s also got the likes of Matteo Darmian and Timothy Fosu-Mensah to fill in for the Ecuadorian international if needed.
Therefore, the Portuguese coach isn’t in any desperate need to bring in Coleman before the window shuts and I also highly doubt Everton would agree to do business so late in the day.
Coleman is a top class right-back who’d be an asset to any team but if he does end up at United, any potential move will surely have to wait until the summer…..despite what the newspapers say.
