Man Utd’s ‘Agreement’ To Sign £35m International Under Threat From Euro Giants
Manchester United’s agreement to sign Nelson Semedo is under threat after Bayern Munich entered the race to sign the Benfica’s £35m-rated full-back
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, more on Man Utd’s pursuit of Nelson Semedo….
Manchester United’s agreement to sign Nelson Semedo is under threat after Bayern Munich entered the race to sign Benfica’s £35m-rated full-back, according to the Sun.
Semedo has developed a reputation as one of the best full-backs in Portuguese football since breaking in to the Benfica first team last season and he’s now established himself in the first team with 29 appearances to his name this campaign.
The 23-year-old has attracted interest from throughout Europe but it looked as though he was set for a move to Old Trafford after the Daily Star reported earlier this month that United had reached an agreement to sign the full-back this summer.
Jose Mourinho decided against making any significant additions to his squad in January and instead chose to prepare for a busy summer of activity in the transfer market.
It looked as though Mourinho had already lined-up his first piece of business with the Star claiming that United had agreed to pay Benfica £35m for the signature of Semedo – who has been identified as a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia.
The Ecuadorian international has enjoyed an excellent season at Old Trafford and was handed a new contract recently but he’ll turn 32 at the start of next season so Mourinho needs to look to the future and Semedo was seemingly in his thoughts.
However, it looks as though United’s proposed deal is now under threat as the Sun are reporting today that Bayern Munich are hoping to hijack the Red Devil’s plans to sign the Portuguese international.
The German giants need to find a replacement for Philipp Lahm after he announced he’ll be retiring at the end of the season and the newspaper says that Carlo Ancelotti has earmarked Semedo as the man he wants.

Last summer United missed out to Bayern for the signature of Renato Sanches so I’m sure they’ll want to avoid a similar situation this time around, but it will be interesting to see who wins this latest fight between these two European heavyweights.
