Man Utd To Bid £173m For Brazilian Star & Tempt Striker With £21m Wages
Man Utd are plotting a sensational £173m swoop for Neymar and are ready to lure the striker away from Barcelona with the promise of £21m per season in wages
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Manchester United are linked with Neymar….
Manchester United are plotting a sensational £173m swoop for Neymar and are ready to lure the striker away from Barcelona with the promise of £21m per season in wages, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The newspaper is citing a report coming from Spanish outlet Sport that claims United have made it clear they are ready to activate a €200m (£173m) release clause that’s written in to Neymar’s contract.
If United could pull it off the deal would represent a new world transfer record – smashing the £89m United paid Juventus for midfielder Paul Pogba last summer.
Obviously it will still be tricky trying to lure the Brazilian international away from the Nou Camp but the report claims that United will offer Neymar a staggering £21m-per-season if he makes the move to Old Trafford.
No doubt Barca will be desperate to keep hold of the 25-year-old as he’s become one of the best players on the planet since moving to Spain from Santos in 2013 with his 99 goals and 76 assists helping the Catalan giants to a whole host of honours including 2 La Liga titles and the Champions League.
However, they would be powerless to prevent him moving to England if United do trigger his release clause and Neymar admitted last week that he is keen to play in the Premier League one day.
The South American superstar also named United as one of the clubs he admires here in England and said Jose Mourinho is a ‘high-level’ coach that he’d love to work under.
Neymar is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail:
‘The Premier League is a championship that amazes me. I like the playing style and the teams. And who knows, someday, I would like to play at it, yes.
‘I admire Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool — these are the teams that are always there fighting.
‘And then you have high-level coaches like Mourinho and Guardiola. These are coaches with whom any player would like to work.’
It remains to be seen whether Neymar could be tempted away from Barcelona just yet but United are one of the only clubs in world football who could afford to pay his release clause if and when he does decide he wants a new challenge.

Obviously it would be amazing to have a player like Neymar playing in the Premier League and United are expected to bring in a new forward this summer with Wayne Rooney tipped to leave and Zlatan Ibrahimovic yet to sign a new deal, so it could be an interesting few months ahead.
