Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are hoping to sign Ivan Perisic and Eric Dier…
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has skipped their pre-season tour of the US in order to push through deals for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic and Tottenham star Eric Dier, according to the Mirror.
Jose Mourinho has already spent over £100m on the signings of striker Romelu Lukaku and centre-back Victor Lindelof but the United boss is ready to splash out on two more big-money signings.
A new holding midfielder to act as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick is on the agenda and while a number of players have been linked with United in recent weeks, Dier has emerged as a prime target.
The Mirror reported yesterday that Mourinho is urging his bosses to do all they can to sign the Tottenham star despite the north Londoners insistence Dier won’t be sold at any price this summer.
The 23-year-old has been used largely as a centre-back since joining Spurs in 2014 but Mourinho is ready to offer him the chance to play regularly in his preferred central midfield role.
Tottenham are in a strong negotiating position as the England international only signed a new long-term contract last summer but the Mirror claim Woodward is hoping to seal a £50m deal.
The United executive vice-chairman has stayed back in the UK to work on transfer business instead of heading off on the clubs pre-season tour and the newspaper says he’s also working on a deal to sign Perisic.
The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks and while Inter are holding out for around £50m, the Mirror claim United are hoping to seal a deal at £45m.
Perisic is due to fly to China on Inter’s pre-season tour next Tuesday but the report says he wants the Italian giants to sanction his move to United as quickly as possible.
The Croatian international joined Inter from Wolfsburg two years ago and enjoyed an excellent season last year after scoring 11 goals and setting up a further 12 for his team mates.

He’s predominantly a left winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the attacking positions so he’d offer Mourinho plenty of options while his hard working style of play will also appeal to the United boss.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop as United look to pull off this £95m double swoop but I think they’re going to find it a lot easier to sign Perisic than Dier as Tottenham will no doubt play hardball over the versatile midfielder.
