Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Gareth Bale is linked with Man Utd and Chelsea…
Manchester United and Chelsea have held preliminary talks with Real Madrid about a sensational £90m deal to sign Gareth Bale this summer, according to a report in the Express.
Bale has been a huge success since joining Madrid in a then world record £86m deal from Tottenham in 2013 as he’s continued to forge a reputation as one of the best attackers in Europe.
The Welsh international has scored 67 goals and provided 51 assists in his 149 appearances to help Madrid win three Champions League trophies and a La Liga title during his four years in Spain.
However, Bale’s future at the Bernabeu has been cast in doubt in recent weeks as speculation is intensifying that Zinedine Zidane is ready to cash-in on the 28-year-old this summer.
The Express are citing a report coming from Marca that claims Zidane has held talks with president president Florentino Perez where it was confirmed they would need to sell one of Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema if they successfully sign Kylian Mbappe.
The Monaco sensation is being strongly tipped to join Madrid this month and the Spanish newspaper says the European champions have decided Bale will be the man sacrificed due to his recent injury problems.
The former Spurs attacker made just 26 appearances last season due to hamstring and calf injuries and he was left on the bench for the Champions League final during the win over Juventus with Isco preferred in attack.
Marca claim that Madrid have already held preliminary talks with Man Utd and Chelsea over a potential £90m deal and Bale is starting to accept he may be returning to the Premier League this summer.
United are understood to have shown the most serious interest so far and that comes as no surprise as the Red Devils have long been linked with a move for the Welsh super-star.
Jose Mourinho has confirmed he’s in the market for a wide attacker and they are one of the few clubs who could afford to pull off the deal, plus Bale would be the marquee signing United have been looking out for.
However, we shouldn’t discount Chelsea from the running just yet as the Blues also have the financial firepower needed to sign Bale and the player could be tempted by a return to London.
